US government on the brink of a shutdown as national debt soars past $37 trillion

The United States is once again facing the possibility of a government shutdown as Congress remains deadlocked over federal funding.
Democrats and republicans are debating which federal programmes to fund and which to cut, as national debt skyrockets.
The US government now owes more than 37 trillion dollars.
