No Man left behind : U S Marine given Proper Burial after 76 Years November 21, 2018 Usaadmin US Marines, US Military </p> <h2>Killed in Action</h2> <p> Sgt. Millard Odom was killed in action on Nov. 20, 1943 during World War II at the Battle of Tarawa. Odom was a member of Kilo Company, 3rd Battalion, 2nd Marines, 1st Marine Division.</p> <p>After retrieving his remains, the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency recovered Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA) samples on August 2, 2018, and Odom’s DNA was a match with his sister and his niece.</p> <p>Odom is laid to rest in Miramar National Cemetery at San Diego, Calif., Nov. 20.
