Home prices plummeting in the South
Is Donald Trump going to fire Jerome Powell? And what will the impact be on the housing market? It seems likely that the Fed will cut interest rates over the next year, which could re-stimulate the housing market. And potentially push home prices up. But will that actually happen?
Home prices are dropping in many states across the U.S. in the summer of 2025, particularly south of Atlanta where this video was filmed (in Henry County). Home values are starting to get cheap, with many houses selling for $275,000 or less. This is due to oversupply on the market and investors selling.
This is a trend that started in Florida’s housing market last year but it’s now spreading to Georgia, Tennessee, and North Carolina. Cheaper home prices and more homes for sale are happening. But if Trump fires Jerome Powell, and/or the Fed cuts interest rates, what will happen to the housing market?
Reventure suspects that interest rate cuts might not be enough to stimulate homebuyer demand, as the last time the Fed cut rates in 2024 there was no discernible increase in demand. In fact – mortgage rates went up when the Fed last cute rates.
