Iran’s Khamenei Blames Trump for Deadly Protests, Accuses US of Interference

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has blamed former U.S. President Donald Trump for inciting weeks of deadly protests across Iran, accusing Washington of directly encouraging unrest and violence.

Speaking before a chanting crowd in Tehran, Khamenei said the protests were “American in nature” and claimed the U.S. and Israel helped organise what he described as a “sedition” against the Islamic Republic. Rights groups say a violent crackdown by Iranian security forces has killed thousands since protests erupted in late December over economic hardship.

Trump had earlier warned Tehran against executing protesters and threatened “very strong action.” Iranian authorities deny planning mass executions and insist the unrest was driven by armed rioters backed by foreign powers.

The protests have evolved into one of the most serious challenges to Iran’s clerical leadership in years, drawing international concern over human rights, political freedoms, and rising tensions between Tehran and Washington.
