Former US ambassador to the UN, John Bolton, says Donald Trump has “shredded” decades of US policy aimed at decoupling India from Russia and China.
The US president announced this summer he was imposing 50% tariffs on India, in an effort to stop New Delhi purchasing the Russian oil that is helping fund Moscow’s war against Ukraine.
Mr Bolton said that move had simply pushed India into the arms of China.
Mr Bolton, a fierce critic of Trump, also told Sky News Vladimir Putin had “humiliated” the US leader in Alaska – and the chances of securing a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine had diminished since last month’s summit.
