Zohran Mamdani, a 34-year-old pro-Palestinian socialist, has been elected as New York’s first Muslim mayor, defeating establishment rivals with a Left-wing campaign. His win sets up a clash with Donald Trump, who has threatened to cut funding to the city.
In his victory speech, Mamdani vowed New York would lead the fight against Trump and future populist leaders, calling his election a symbol of hope for divided Democrats.
