PUTIN WARNS, TRUMP REACTS: Is Finland Now the Next War Zone?
Russian President Vladimir Putin has warned that Moscow will establish new military areas along its northwestern frontier after Finland joined NATO, saying Russia “will station complexes” near the Finnish border. His comments at the Valdai Discussion Club marked the most explicit threat yet of a military buildup in the north. Hours later, U.S. President Donald Trump met Finland’s President Alexander Stubb and Prime Minister Petteri Orpo at the White House, pledging to defend Finland “vigorously” and announcing an 11-ship Arctic icebreaker deal. The Finnish leaders accused Moscow of “aggression in Ukraine” and “hybrid warfare” along the border, calling Russia both militarily and economically weak. As Ukraine peace talks stall, the confrontation between Russia and NATO appears to be shifting north — from the Donbas to the Arctic.
