In a remarkable White House press conference last night, President Trump and several of his administration’s public health officials including Robert F Kennedy Jr – his health secretary – claimed that using paracetamol (which is sold as Tylenol in the US) during pregnancy could lead to autism.
The President encouraged pregnant mothers to “tough it out” instead.
Trump also speculated that childhood immunisation programmes can be a cause, and put forward the idea of separating out vaccines like MMR as well as delaying the hepatitis B jab – echoing discredited theories about their safety promoted by, among others, RFK Jr.
Camilla and Tim speak to Telegraph Science Correspondent Joe Pinkstone, who explains why the overwhelming weight of scientific evidence debunks the President’s claims.
